Dell XPS M1530

Coming from an old player in the laptop game, there are several things that a buyer can look forward to from the Dell XPS M1530.

For years, it has been the complaint of several buyers of Dell laptops that the units are quite thick as well as heavy. The Dell XPS M1530, however, is decidedly different from its older cousins. For the first time, Dell released a model in 2007 that is sleek, thin and light. When users complained that Dell laptops have very small screens, Dell then released the XPS M1530, which has a larger screen.

Specifications:

CPU: 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
Memory: 2GB DDR2-667 SDRAM
Hard Drive: 160GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD
Display: 15.4-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) CCFL glossy screen
Optical Drive: Slot-loading dual-layer DVD±RW drive
Video Drive: NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR3
Webcam: Integrated 2.0 megapixel webcam
Security Hardwaer: Fingerprint Reader
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Wireless: Ethernet, 802.11a/g/n
Bluetooth: Bluetooth 2.0
Battery: 6-cell or 9-cell
USB Ports: 3
Card Slot: 8-1 card reader; ExpressCard

The XPS M1530 features a soft-touch finish for its chassis. What's wonderful is that it allows the buyer to choose from three different colors for its finish. Choices include Tuxedo Black, Alphine White or Crimson Red. Dell has decided to turn from the norm and not overload this machine with flashy designs and, as a result, it only has the soft-touch finish to boast of aesthetically.

Like mentioned earlier, Dell has made this notebook amazingly light: something it has not done with past models. The Dell XPS M1530 weighs an impressive 2.6 screen even if it has a sizable 15.4-inch LCD screen. This is ideal for businessmen and mobile computer users.

The Dell XPS M1530 is made up of strong and high quality materials which include steel, magnesium and aluminum. This would mean that the XPS M1530 is strong, durable and is able to resist the effects of wear and tear for a period of time.

The Dell XPS M1530 also comes with an impressive keyboard. All keys are full-sized, thus giving your fingers ample space and making usage comfortable for you. They are also soft and very responsive. The keyboard is complemented by an equally comfortable and sensitive touchpad.

One thing that can turn you off from the M1530, however, is its mediocre sound system. Placed on top of the keyboards, it is not supported by a subwoofer thus limiting the amount of bass that they can output. This will certainly ruin your audio experience.

While it certainly does have a good video card, it is far from being powerful. The NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M installed on its motherboard only has a video memory of 256 MB, certainly not enough for heavy gaming. Typical games that demand little in video memory and processing power would be enough, as it's certainly up to the task. However, hardcore gaming is not a part of this machine's forte. Games like Crysis and Need for Speed's Pro Street are only rendered at very low frame rates, thereby greatly affecting the video and detail quality. So, if you're a hardcore gamer, the M1530 is not the one for you.

All in all, aside from the sound issues and the low frame rates for the later games, the XPS M1530 is an excellent machine. In fact, people consider it as the next step after the M1330, an earlier model which did well on its own right. Despite the high price tag, the XPS M1530 is still a good buy with its powerful features, design and ergonomic features.

You Stay Connected

The Internet has come a long way since its inception. When it first appeared, the worldwide web was little more than a few web pages. Today, there are literally billions. We are so used to the Internet that many of us wonder how we every lived without it. It helps us with every facet of our lives. At work, it helps us send information, quickly, easily and effortlessly. When we want to unwind, we can use it to plan a vacation or chat with friends. Every day, there is a new use. As the Internet has advanced, so too have the means of getting and using it.

At the start, we all had dial-up modems. These early modems were slow and unreliable, but still better than nothing. They brought the Internet into our homes and provided us with an incredible luxury.

Cable modems and later high-speed cable modems followed dial-up. These modems were far superior to dial-up in two ways. First, because they worked with cable and not telephone lines, they didn't interfere with our making or receiving calls. Second, they were much more reliable and much faster. The only downside of cable technology was that it was static. We could take advantage of this technology in our homes, offices, or cyber cafés, but not outside of these places.

To increase mobility, wireless Internet was invented. With this incredible technology, as long as we had wireless cards and routers, we could move about our homes and offices and stay connected to the Internet. Furthermore, this wireless breakthrough allowed us to carry the Internet with us wherever we went. We could access the Internet in any place that had a wireless router.

However, even with the incredible advantages that wireless offered, it too had limitations. For instance, if you desperately needed to use the Internet but were away from your home and office and there was no room in a café that had a wireless router, how were you supposed to connect? A few years ago, they answer was: you couldn't. Today, the answer is WiMAX.

WiMAX is a wireless digital communications system designed to help people stay connected in any metropolitan area. This technology provides broadband wireless access by using two kinds of stations, like giant wireless routers, that allow people to pick up an Internet signal. The first station is known as a fixed station, and it can transmit a signal up to 30 miles away. The second station is called a mobile station and it can send a signal up to 10 miles away. Compare these incredible distances with the average home router, which requires that a person be within 300 feet, and you can clearly see how far wireless technology has come. Furthermore, the advantages of this amazing innovation are astounding. This technology ensures that never again will you have trouble finding a place to get online. Now, you can get connected and stay connected, anywhere.

4G Gives You Freedom

In today's fast-paced world, we are all busier than ever before. Fifty years ago, it was common to see families sitting around the dinner table, talking and laughing and enjoying home-cooked meals. Today, especially with the shaky economy, parents are required to work more hours, starting earlier and finishing later. They are lucky if they can get out of the office in time to be home for dinner. And when they arrive, they are happy to let the microwave prepare frozen dinners or call a restaurant that delivers. Kids today also have hectic schedules. One of the main reasons is that colleges are becoming more and more competitive. Extracurricular activities are more important now than they were just five years ago, and so students are encouraged to develop many hobbies from an early age. Between soccer practice, guitar lessons and school activities, kids never know when they will be home.

Luckily, technological advancements are always ready to help. These breakthroughs allow you to manage a heavier workload and find the time to be with your family. One of the very best innovations that can help you to save time and to make time is a new internet service that is popping up all over the place. This radical new form of service is called 4G.

4G is the latest and greatest advancement in the way that we receive the Internet. Without a doubt, it is like nothing that you have experienced before.

When people started using the Internet in their homes, they connected using dial-up or cable. Some people haven't changed with the times, however. While these methods of using the Internet are better than nothing, they restrict your mobility. You can only use them while sitting at your PC. 4G, however, is a radical technology that allows you to access the Internet from anywhere in the city. For a low monthly fee, a 4G subscription gives you high-speed wireless Internet anywhere you take your laptop.

The advantages of this technology are obvious. No longer are you confined to your home. Furthermore, when going about your daily business, if you need to access the Internet, you are no longer dependant on cyber cafés or restaurants with a wireless router. With this technology, you are always connected. Wherever you go, this fast reliable Internet service will be there.

A subscription to this incredible new Internet service is an excellent solution for people who are always on the move. This technology allows you to break the chains that bind you to your computer in the office so that you can spend more time at home with your kids. For that matter, kids can stay connected to the Internet all day as they go through their busy lives. In this way, no matter where they are, the whole family can be in touch via email or instant messenger.

Laptop Sleeve

Laptop computers are becoming more and more popular these days, and now are often the only type of computer used in a household. This is because at the same time that they are becoming more and more affordable, their computing power is growing to the point where they are as powerful as desktop computers from just a few years ago. Laptops are still not quite powerful enough to be a good choice if you often do tasks that require a lot of power, such as video editing. But for web surfing, word processing, and most other common computer work they are just fine, provided you do not mind the small screen size. Or, if you don't mind a VERY small screen and are mostly using the computer for email and internet surfing, you can save a lot of money and travel very light buy purchasing a Netbook computer for as little as $250 or even less. Many do not like to use what a laptop has in place of a mouse, but you can add on a mouse at minimal cost.

If you decide to buy a laptop, and you are going to be carrying it around as opposed to having it sit on a desk as a replacement for your old desktop, it is important that you buy some good protection for it. It is a good idea to buy both a hard case and a laptop sleeve, which may be thought of as a tight fitting envelope for your laptop, made out of plastic, neoprene, vinyl, or more exotic materials such as leather. Just a case for your laptop is not enough because with a case, a laptop, especially a powerful desktop-replacement model, is often heavier and less portable than you would like. A sleeve offers enough protection for most situations, without the bulk and weight of a case.

The price for good quality laptop sleeves ranges from around fifteen to fifty dollars. A good sleeve should be padded for added protection in case you drop it. This can happen more often than you might think; for example students often forget they have their computer in a backpack and then proceed to toss the backpack on the floor! You also need to consider whether you want the sleeve to include a handle or a shoulder strap. There is a vast selection of sleeves available online, so you should compare prices and styles by doing searches on internet search engines such as Google. Use several search terms, such as "sleeve for laptop" and "laptop notebook sleeve", to get the best results. First search for the size and style that fits your needs, and once you have narrowed your options down compare the prices. Remember that the size specification such as 17 inches refers to the diagonal measurement of your laptops screen. If you are not sure of the size look for sleeves designed specifically for your laptop model.

A neoprene laptop sleeve is a good choice because in addition to the protection it is especially lightweight and has a stylish look as if it were a wetsuit. Neoprene is also known as polychloroprene, and is a kind of synthetic rubber, invented by Dupont around 70 years ago. Belkin is one of the best brands for Neoprene sleeves in a variety of sizes and colors, although if you have a Macbook Pro, the fit may not be as snug as you would like. Microsoft also makes a good neoprene sleeve.

One good website to look for laptop sleeves of all different types is eBags. Their collection of sleeves includes the Designer Sleeves brand 17 inch Executive Laptop model, with handle and strap and available in a variety of colors and patterns, for about $48. A much slimmer neoprene model they have is the 17 inch SlipSuit by Mobile Edge, also available in several colors, for about $23.

For many laptop users, the appearance of the sleeve is at least as important as its function. For you "fashionistas" there is a great list of 50 stylish, unique sleeves at Hongkiat. For example there is the "My Documents" laptop sleeve, which looks like the "My Documents" icon on a PC. Or try the Italian leather sleeve that looks like one of those manila envelopes used to send mail from one department to another in a company. Another one looks like the front of a white shirt used for office wear, complete with tie and breast pocket. Other designs are more straightforward. Of course, most of these good-looking sleeves are quite a lot more expensive than the plainer, utilitarian ones.

If you are a bargain hunter as I am, consider getting a used laptop sleeve on eBay. If a seller has a lot of positive feedback and will accept returns, buying from eBay is safe, and the selection is large. Make sure to check the shipping cost (many eBay sellers make their money by charging too much for shipping), and the delivery time. Also make sure the picture is of the actual item rather than a stock photo, and carefully read the description of the sleeves condition. Signing up to be an eBay member is reasonably easy and free. Most of the time sellers will only accept PayPal payments, but signing up for PayPal is much easier than it used to be. Another place to get used sleeves is Craigslist, but the selection is much, much more limited.
